History

Established more than a century ago

The BESIX group was founded in 1909 and has grown steadily and impressively ever since.

1909

The "Société Belge des Bétons" (SBB)/ "Belgische Betonmaatschappij" (BBM) signs contracts for prestigious construction projects.

1922

SBB sets up subsidiaries in France and Spain.

1940+

SBB enters the West African market.

1966

The 6 companies of SBB Group form Six Construct to manage large projects in the Middle East.

1973

The list of references in the Middle East and Africa expands rapidly.

1982

SBB takes over companies in the 3 Belgian regions : Entreprises Jacques Delens, Wust & Vanhout. 

1990

The Group enters the Eastern European market with projects in Russia, Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

1992

Re-entry into the Netherlands.

1995

Re-entry into Egypt.

2004

Leveraged Management Buy-Out.
Launch of new corporate identity: SBB becomes BESIX Group.

 

2010

Inauguration of the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the world's tallest buidling, proudly built by BESIX

2011

BESIX Group wins its first contract in Australia

2015

BESIX celebrates 50 years of presence in the Middle East.

2016

BESIX goes Nordic with its first project in Denmark (Roskilde Fjord Link).

2017

Rik Vandenberghe is appointed as new CEO of BESIX Group. Johan Beerlandt succeeds Baron Jean Stéphenne as Chairman of the Board of Directors.

2017

BESIX announces the acquisition of the main Belgian activities of the Dutch group Heijmans.

2018

BESIX RED, the subsidiary of BESIX responsible for property development, is celebrating its 30th anniversary.

 
2018

In Belgium, BESIX acquires Mabilux, CR-Invest, Corebat, De Bie-Veba and Flamant and acquires a stake in A-STAY and LN24.

 
2018

BESIX strengthens its position in Australia through the acquisition of the construction company Watpac Ltd.

2019

BESIX enters Canada and redevelops in Eastern Europe (Latvia, Poland).

2019

BESIX opens its 3D Concrete Printing lab in Dubai.

2020

BESIX is awarded the ISO 19650 certification, the first global standard for BIM.

2020

With the launch of the largest PPP in its history in the Middle East, the Dubai Waste-to-Energy project, BESIX is strengthening its position as a strategic partner for public authorities.

2021

BESIX enters new countries, incl. New Zealand, Norway and Georgia.

2021

Pierre Sironval succeeds Rik Vandenberghe as Deputy CEO, later as CEO of BESIX Group.

2022

BESIX enters Brazil with the upgrade of Port of Navegantes’ infrastructure.

2023

BESIX Group embraces innovation and diversification with strategic investment in PropTech start-ups.
